After trekking the Paw Paw detour and setting up camp, this was a welcome stop the next morning to refill water bottles, buy some cold water and gatorades, and replenish food. Very friendly and HELPFUL staff. 10/10

Dave, from youtube did an excellent series of videos on his travels on the gap/towpath. Very informative and fun to watch. His entire trip consists of 12 months and 111 videos.

I have watched half of his videos, still watching the rest. Very informative and seems to be a great guy!

Love Dave's videos! Very inspiring and kind of makes me want to do a similar type trip although I don't know if I could video and talk to the camera as much as he did.

I read a post of his that says he's now sticking to the western states (I think he meant west of the Rockies). Or the poor guy needs a rest! :-) I think he's been riding, if you add it all up, for 2-3 years. Good quality videos if you want a good feel for bike touring.

C&O Bicycle & Bunkhouse in Hancock

Spent the night their earlier this month; Dennis had a crew installing a new deck in the bunk house. Looked great. Had a wonderful stay, breakfast at Weaver’s before hitting the trail again. You can’t beat $10 a night. Highly recommended just remember this; it’s not the Waldorf Astoria. It’s a BUNK HOUSE!

I'm camping the entire DC-PIT trip the first week of June except for one night and that will be at the Bunkhouse in Hancock! Can't wait!

Bunk House in Hancock, Tea Horse Hostel in Harper's Ferry: why pack the extra camping gear weight if you're doing the C&O over 3 days/2 nights? Both are great places to stay!

You have to spend the night in the “Chicken Coops” at Dennis’ place. You can’t miss it because you pass right by on either the C&O Canal trail or the WMRT.

We stayed there summer of 2011. I had no problems with the place, but not sure the wife has forgiven me yet! But, beats a tent and cheaper than a hotel room!

I stayed there when I hiked the trail a couple of April's ago. Had the place to myself but that's OK as it got me out of the rain that night and I was able to get a shower. What could be wrong with that? I could see how it would be a great place for a small group to stay at.

The bunkhouse, store, were really nice; however, the portajons made me gag. I tried to get up early enough to go to town for restroom, when I realised I would have to use the "filth-pit" again, I cried. I think there is enough income being generated to put some chemical in the potty. If management doesn't care that the toilet seat is smeared, he could at least provide cleaning essentials. Perhaps a man could stand this, but definitely not for a woman.

Glad that this place did not go up in smoke with the store across the street went up in flames last winter. Stop in, say hello and buy something!
